The heart has four chambers. The two chambers on the right side collects blood low in oxygen from your body and pump it to your lungs. While in your lungs, new oxygen is replaced in the blood. From the lungs the blood is returned to the two chambers on the left side of the heart. It is then pumped out to the rest of the body and the cycle continues.

It is amazing to know that the heart muscle receives its own blood supply from vessels called coronary arteries. It also has its own pacemaker which controls how fast it beats.

Heart disease is the leading reason of death around the world. The good news is that the death rate from heart disease has been progressively lessening because of the different medical procedure such as Heart Surgery. There are many types of operations such as coronary artery bypass surgery which improves blood flow to the heart muscle; and the heart valve surgery which is heart surgery that is done while you are under general anesthesia. Most patients will stay in hospital for 5 days following their surgery. Before you go home, you will be given information about what you should and should not do. There are teaching class provided to review important information for you and your family to know about your recovery.
